Jack West
Chief Executive Officer & CTO
Jack is the primary inventor of the Zep System patented technology and cofounder of Zep Solar, Inc. Jack has been the driving force and inspiration responsible for creating the company, securing multiple rounds of investment capital, and attracting a stellar team - all while continuing to lead the company and optimize the design of Zep's technologies.
Jack has been designing PV systems for 20 years and is credited with creating High Sun Engineering, the first California-based engineering firm specializing in PV system design and engineering. He is a recognized expert in the photovoltaics industry, and is often sought out by PV manufacturers for consultation on product development. In addition to regular speaking engagements at conferences, Jack is the co-producer and main instructor of High Sun Engineering's advanced PV design course for engineers. An avid inventor, Jack is the holder of two patents and has four patents pending.
Jack graduated from Humboldt State University in 1991 with a customized BS degree in Solar Engineering and began his solar career by creating one of the first successful grid-tied PV installation businesses in California.
Christina Manansala
Vice President of Operations
As cofounder, Christina created Zep Solar's early corporate structure, manages the Board of Directors and investor affairs, and is involved in general operations. She also assisted Jack as co-inventor of the Zep Solar technology.
Along with Jack West, Christina cofounded High Sun Engineering and was in charge of management and operations. As Principal Engineer she consulted with architects and developers to incorporate solar energy and efficiency into building projects and provided solar design engineering. She also created, produces, and co-instructs High Sun Engineering's advanced PV design course for engineers. A 20+ year veteran of the energy industry, she started her career as an energy-efficiency engineer in the late 1980's and entered the solar space in 1994 as Vice President of Design Engineering at Davis Energy Group, Inc.
Christina has a BS in Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in Design and a focus on Energy Policy from the University of California, Davis, 1985.
Daniel Flanigan
Vice President of Sales & Marketing
Having a broad understanding of both trade and business aspects of the PV industry and ten years experience in the sales, marketing & operational activities of multiple solar companies, Daniel was invited to participate in the founding of Zep Solar.
Daniel has been active in the solar industry since the beginning of the net-metered photovoltaic systems market in California. Working as a C10 electrical contractor and an independent industry consultant for new product development, he has been a pioneer in the new wave of solar electric system design and construction. Daniel has lived in solar electric powered homes since 1995 and installed some of the first net metered systems in California. He is a North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners Certified Photovoltaic Installer and a former California Certified Journeyman Electrician.
Daniel graduated from Humboldt State University in 1996 with a BA in Religious Studies with emphases in the Department of Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences.
John Parsons
Chief Financial Officer
John is a seasoned executive with more than 18 years of experience founding, leading, advising and investing in seed and early stage startup companies. John has served as CEO, COO, CFO or VP of Business Development of nine start-ups, five as co-founder. In these roles, he raised eight separate rounds of funding, and led four profitable exits, three as acquisitions and one as an IPO.
John has also been an active board member or advisor to 10 other companies and an investor in over 35 more. He is a member of the Angels Forum and the Band of Angels and was a partner in Halo Fund II, LP. The companies John has been active in are in the energy, water treatment, software, web-based services, healthcare, finance, and packaging industries. John has been a judging chairperson for the California Clean Tech Open business plan competition.
John holds a B.S. degree in Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and an M.B.A. from The Darden Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Virginia. John began his career at GE in operations management and at Ernst & Young in consulting.
Mark Farley
Vice President of Engineering
Mark oversees Zep's engineering department and has developed its testing and quality control processes. He is a technology entrepreneur with a passion for growing ideas into successful companies. He has worked in technology product companies both large and small during his 24 year career in Silicon Valley.
At Finisar Corporation, Mark served as their VP of Engineering from their very early days as a startup through their highly successful growth phase into a large multinational optical supplier. He led the product development teams to create world class optical transceiver products, as well as innovative test equipment and networking gear. During Finisar's growth, Mark was also heavily involved in their technical and manufacturing strategy. Today Finisar is the second largest optical supplier in the world, and ships millions of devices a month. Mark also worked on corporate strategy for Finisar, including IT growth decisions, patent strategy, and multiple corporate acquisitions from analysis through implementation. He currently holds 7 US patents.
Mark holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Massachussetts Institiute of Technology.
Peter Gruber
Senior Product Development Engineer
Throughout his 30 year career, Peter has developed a wide variety of experience in both real-world and test lab environments as well as in the specialized area of computer modeling. He was invited to join ZEP Solar to help optimize the product technology and develop the architecture for the manufacturing process.
Prior to joining ZEP Solar, Peter worked for over 15 years with Xandex, Inc. where he served as a Mechanical and Applications Engineer. At Xandex, Peter's primary focus was new product development and services for a global customer base in the solar energy and semiconductor equipment industries. His responsibilities included domestic and international technical sales support, customer support and systems training, internal ISO auditing, value engineering and quality management, using the Six Sigma process. Peter's skill set took him to customer sites around the world where he was responsible for new product introduction as well as troubleshooting and systems installation.
Peter is certified in Photovoltaic Design, Design & Process FMEA, DFM, 8D Problem Solving, Value Engineering and Advanced computer modeling along with holding an Associates Degree in Automotive Technologies.
David Goldman
Head Manufacturing Engineer
Having founded multiple technology startups, having designed products for companies such as AOL and Apple Computers, and with a background in mechanical engineering, David was invited to join the Zep Solar team as its head manufacturing engineer.
From 1984 to 1989, David was a founder and CTO for Animatrix, a multimedia company where he designed and engineered many substantive CD-ROM based multimedia products for major corporations. David joined with Barry and Tracy Schuler to found Medior in 1989. In 1995, Medior was acquired by America Online and David became an integral part of the technology team charged with online media creation and deployment. From 2004 to 2007, David was involved with a small technology startup, Raydiance, which is developing a revolutionary ultra-short pulse laser platform.
David is currently active in local Green initiatives in his home community of Napa Valley, CA where he works to ensure Napa Valley's quality of life and economic future are secure. David holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from U.C. Davis.
